InStep Planning brings specialist expertise in assessing and managing the social impacts of development, from local projects to state significant developments.
Our focus is on reducing inequalities, supporting vulnerable groups, and ensuring development creates positive outcomes for communities.
Our services include:
Demographic Assessment Reports
Data-driven profiles of communities and populations to understand future community needs.
Community Engagement Plans & Outcome Reports
Designing and documenting meaningful community consultation in accordance with IAP2 guidelines. A community engagement plan is an important step to identify key stakeholders and the most suitable method to engage.
The Outcomes Report is a summary of the consultation with relevant and key stakeholders to close the loop in the consultation.
Social Impact Comments
Suited to smaller scale development which does not required a comprehensive social impact assessment. Examples of development which may require a Social Impact Comment are entertainment facilities, tourist and visitor accommodation, manufactured home estates, food and drink premises, educational establishments and early childhood education facilities.
A Social Impact Comment will provide a demographic overview of the community to establish a social baseline, impact assessment and impact mitigation, monitoring and review.
Social Impact Assessment
Suited for larger scale development and a requirement for State Significant Development where a development proposal is likely to have an impact on vulnerable communities. Examples of development which may require a Social Impact Assessment are large scale subdivision, boarding houses, pubs, medical centres and major transport infrastructure.
A Social Impact Assessment will be tailored to the scale of the development and is undertaken in accordance with the NSW Government Social Impact Assessment Guidelines. The assessment will undertake initial scoping of potential social impacts, community consultation with the social locality and broader community, impact refinement, mitigation and provide requirements for monitoring and review.
Social Impact Management Plans
A Social Impact Management Plan is document that sets out the framework for monitoring and reviewing social impacts during and post construction. The Social Impact Management Plan is a fluid document which responds to the social impacts that occur over time.
